My academic year

jueves, 26 de noviembre de 2009

Academically, this year has been too much complex to me. The first term was an excellent part of the year, in all the ways. I had subjects that I loved greatly, so I dedicated all my time and my effort to get a good performance in them. Some examples oh those subjects are Interpersonal Communication. The man who teaches it is Osvaldo Corrales, a really, really good teacher. Actually, one of the most important reasons to love this subject is the high qualities of Corrales.

Interpersonal Communication is a subject that rubs with the studies of psychology and I have to confess that psychology was a powerful alternative before choosing the journalism career. The aspect of that course that makes me happier and let me more satisfied is that I could pass the subject without taking the last exams.

Then, there was another subject that I really enjoyed: Oral and Corporal Expression (In Spanish: Expresión oral y corporal). In this course we learned about tools to keep a correct corporal position, a better modulation, speaking and finally we improve the way of displacing and walking. All of that could be maybe some of the most important tools to be an upright journalist. So it was a really and interesting subject.

Finally, the first term of this year, I created a new project called “Aficción”. That should be the best of the term. Aficción is a podcast (a kind of radial show, but recorded) in which Carlos Andueza and me talk about the actuality and different topics related with the fiction (in Spanish, fiction is “ficción), it means, we talk about Cinema, Literature, TV series, comics, theatre and a lot of more cultural products. This podcast used to be a project that I wanted to start a lot of time ago and here, in Santiago, in the university, I found the perfect partner to do it: Carlos Andueza.

Today, the present term, Aficción has become a radial show, broadcasted by the JGM radio, in the signal 104.5 F.M. Also, we are working in a new step to the project: an e-zine called www.aficcion.cl , in which we are going to write about the same subjects of the podcast. We are with a lot of enthusiasm and energy, thinking in Aficcón.

The only sad aspect of the year is related with this subject: English. The English is an idiom, as all we know, fundamental in the actual society. I even used to enjoy practicing the English, but this year (in both terms) I have to say that my experience with the english class in the university has not been the best. I mean, the both teachers are really good, the classes are interesting, but this university and its inability to do the paperwork right, announced too late for the presence of this subject, so I could not prepare ahead of time the organizing of my calendar.

That´s the reason for what I couldn´t make my best performance in this English class. I like the English but, I know, I could do it better.

The Social Communication: a responsability with the citizenship

jueves, 19 de noviembre de 2009

The discipline i am studying has always had to face a very important challenge with the technology. Actually, the journalism or the "social communication" must use the latest advances in technology because since the human being had the hability of communicating, it has could and should use the recent tools or create new ones to improve the effectiveness of the process.
The communication is everything in our lifes. It determinates us, our worldview, our relationships and, as I said before, all our life. So, the sciences that are interested in the communication matters and in the advances of the communication technology , should be in the center of the societal concierns.

The future of the Social Communication is in the in the most technological platforms, I mean, the Internet and the virtuals spaces. So if I had to choose just one topic as the most important matter of my discipline, I actually would say the technology. The communication, today, is virtual. Everyday we can see new ideas and invents in the Internet (Blogs, facebook, twitter) so, every day, I reaffirm my future and life´s project: I will be a digital communicator.

With the second topic, the journalists have an intrinsic commitment. This career is called, as I told before, the "Social Communication" so, that challenge is a basic stuff to us. We have to live around all the most relevant social matters so it shouldn´t be a difficult problem to us. In some ways, we are the voice of the citizens, the only chance of the people to take them problems to the authorities. Al the challenges in this area are important in the journalism. The social injustices, the poverty, the matters of the social minorities; everything.

Finally, the education, as a topic that we can´t separate of the Social Matters, is also an important area in which we have a lot of challenges. The most relevant challenge of this area is the responsability with the education of the citizenship. The words we use and the way we write or talk, determinate the vocabulary that a lot of people will acquire. Obviously is really important adressing matters, in our job, related with the level of education of the country, but I thing the most important challenge is conected with the responsabilty of using a good vocabulary

Each season, a feeling

jueves, 12 de noviembre de 2009

My favourite seasons are the summer and the winter. I think those are the epoch in the year in which I feel the best experiences, ¿why? Beacause those are the most defined seasons, I mean, we know what to expect of those months. For instance: I can programme my holyday (in summer) or prepare excelent activities to the winter. I know, at least, how should be the climate.

However, I know winter and summer also have bad things; some characteristics that I don´t like of those seasons. An obvious example of this: the extreme climates are never absolutely agreeable. The excessive sensations use to be disagreeable. The extreme warm or the extreme cold could even kill the human being. But as we know there are ways to protect us of that extreme climates and, also, we know that in summer and winter there are a lot of days in which the

A sad situation

Sadly, the universitiy in which I am studying (Universidad de Chile) doesn´t has the dependences in a suitable level to the high academician grade that (as we suppose) it has. I could be all the week writing reasons to endorse this, but today, I´m gonna give only a few examples.

For instance, this term we have a subject called Fotografía, so, obviusly, we need to take photographies. The kind of camera we need costs about four hundred thousand pesos and, logically, the university can´t ask us to buy one. The class is shaped of about fifty classmates, so every week, the students have to run to be able to reserve a camera and make the ejercices of the subject.

However, I think the current situation in my faculty is the precarious quality of the room here the people call library

In my personal list of life´s priorities, the family has an irrevocable first place. They are my father, Jaime Francisco Bustamante Retamal, my mother, Sara del Carmen Castro Escobar, my older sister, Lorena Francisca Bustamante Castro (23 years old), another sister older than me, Andrea del Pilar Bustamante Castro (22 years old) , me (19 years old) , and a younger brother, called Jaime Bustamante Castro (13 years old).

They are the fundamental sustenance of my life. I love visiting new places, people and having new experiences but I never forget the place I come.

I think my closer family member is my brother Jaime and my sister Andrea. This excelent relationship use to be difficult to believe, because they are really similar to me, wich, as all we know, doesn`t favor very much the good living together.

First, is important to clarify that I`m not the most musical guy that we could find, I mean, obviously I like listening music, but I used to determinate like prioritie another activities. That is an important reason that has made me a guy without a wide knowless in music (I know, that´s a bad thing for a student of journalism).

Anyway, there are some musical bands and singers in my MP4 and of those artists is what I´m gonna write.

Undoubtedly, my favourite artist is the chilean rock band called "Los Prisioneros". I dont know, exactly, how and when did I listen to them for the first time. I just know that the day in which someone let me listen to them I was very young and, for any reason, I like them instantaneously. Another thing I can assure, is that I remember perfectly the first song I listened: it was "We are sudamerican rockers", and I just fall in love with that song. Actually, maybe I could say that "Sudamerican Rockers" is my favourite song of "Los Prisioneros". The second one would be "Corazones rojos" (Red hearts), and in the third place I`d put the song "Paramar".

I would say that I love that song ("We are sudamerican rockers") because it injects me a lot of energy and makes me feel stronger. It is the pefect kind of music I need to listen to start and finish my days with vigour.

Just more time

Before of talking about the Transantiago, I have to clarify one thing: when this system had not been implemented I lived in the Fifth Region so I didn’t use to interact some much with this transport system. Actually, I wasn’t in Santiago when the Transantiago started, so I couldn’t experiment the change directly.

However, I had came to the Metropolitan Region sometimes so I understand a few differences between both systems. Also, today, while I am leaving here in Santiago and as I know very well the transport of my city and I know there are some advantages and disadvantages with the Transantiago.

This new system is worse than the pre-Transantiago in a lot of ways and all that disadvantages have been showed by the press for a long time. Those problems are: the tours of the buses can’t reach all the zones of the city, there are too few buses so the people have to wait too much in some bus stops and it is too easy to the passenger not pay for the ticket.

By the way, I think all that problems are the answer of two characteristic of the context in wich this system have been implemented: the Transantiago is starting and the chilean people are not culturally prepared enough to receive it.

For another side, there are some advantages in this system. Those are: the bus driver have to stop in all the bus stops, also, is not necessary talk whit the driver who is, usually, whit stress and without the better attitude and the busses are bigger so it supports more passengers.

Really, I`d dont make any big change in this system because, I think, we have to have patience and give it more time.
